Power tariff to go up

The Jharkhand State Electricity Board has decided to increase revenue collection in Ranchi after a meeting between engineers of Ranchi Area Board and chairman Rajiv Ranjan. Under the plan, 35,000 single phase and 4,000 triple phase meters would be installed in the district by January 31. Load survey will also be completed. The four blocks — Dumri, Chainpur, Kurdeg and Bolwa — of the district will receive electric supply by March 31. The board has also decided to provide electronic meters to all consumers and special tariff to those who do not have these meters.

Net-savvy

The Indian Institute of Network Technology on Friday began operations in Ranchi to meet the growing demand for computer hardware in the state. The institute would provide updates on computer technology and its practical application in day-to-day life. Institute chief said a special package has been prepared to make the common man computer-savvy.

District carrom

Rajbir Singh Saluja has been elected president of the Ranchi District Carrom Association. Office bearers elected are Alok Kumar Sinha, executive president, Ashok Kumar Dey, secretary, Chanchal Bhattacharya, senior vice-president, Vidya Sagar Kerketta, joint secretary, Sanjeev Ranjan, treasurer, Ram Pravesh, chief patron, Vinod Kumar Bhagat and Madhukant Pathak, patrons, and Sapan Kumar Ghosh and Intkhan Ahmed, vice-presidents.

Computer mela

Infosys Solution, a computer education institute in Ranchi, participated in the “Gunj Gramin Udyog Mela” at Silli, which began on December 18. Infosys Solution held a computer exhibition at the mela which attracted a large number of people. Director Jai Ram Agarwal said discount will be given to those who enroll at the institute. The mela ended on Friday.

School scheme

For the first time in Jharkhand C-Dac, makers of super computers, would introduce a computer education examination programme in schools. The programme will be launched under C-Dac’s grants-in-aid scheme. The programme aims at promoting quality IT education at the grassroots level through the use of GIST — a multilingual computing tool (graphics and intelligence-based script technology). The tool is an effort to put all regional language scripts and their grammatical structures onto the computer.
