Ranchi, June 16: The state Congress, which will host a Chintan Shivir tomorrow to introspect on lapses that led to its rout from the state in Lok Sabha polls, has sharpened its knives against former Union minister Jairam Ramesh by holding him responsible for the party’s drubbing.

Ramesh and state party in-charge and national general secretary B.K. Hariprasad will interact with party workers, MLAs and intellectuals at the daylong Chintan Shivir tomorrow at a city hotel.

But Ramesh, Jharkhand’s most frequent UPA-II visitor who had made the state, especially Saranda, almost his personal development agenda, will see very few welcoming faces this time.

Former MP Subodh Kant Sahay, who lost the Ranchi seat, and his supporters are already making snide remarks against Ramesh without naming him. They are calling him a “drawing-room politician”, who “arrogantly hijacked the party” and “treated workers as doormats”.

Sahay also took a jibe at tomorrow’s event. “Instead of a luxurious city hotel in an AC room, it should have been held at a village chaupal. The party has disconnected itself from the poor,” Sahay told The Telegraph.

“Haar ke baad kuch Chanakya netaon ki aankh khuli hai lekin AC me rahne ki adat nahi gayi hai (After defeat, the eyes of some masterminds have opened but their air-conditioned habits haven’t left them),” Sahay added.

A topic of hot debate would be whether the Congress should part ways with the state coalition before the upcoming Assembly polls. Effective media management, criteria for selection of Assembly poll candidates, election manifesto and thrust areas are the other issues of the meeting.

The Jharkhand state unit has already sent two separate reports to the central leadership underlining reasons behind the party’s defeat. “We were deluded that tribal and Muslim votes would lead us to victory,” said a Congressman.
