Raid on rebel hideout

Police have recovered cash worth Rs 40 lakh, sophisticated weapons such as AK-47, self-loading rifle and a .315 bore rifle and over 100 cartridges from a TPC hideout in Balumath area of Latehar district late on Friday night.

Ranchi, March 25: Police have recovered cash worth Rs 40 lakh, sophisticated weapons such as AK-47, self-loading rifle and a .315 bore rifle and over 100 cartridges from a TPC hideout in Balumath area of Latehar district late on Friday night.

The raid was followed by an exchange of bullets between police and the rebels. However, there was no report of any casualty or arrest.

Search operation has been intensified in the area.

It is perceived that TPC supremo Kishoreji alias Boso Ganjhu alias Raj Kishore Ganjhu, who was nabbed from a shop in Herhanj area of Latehar district on Friday, divulged details about the house in which the TPC operatives were holed up. Search is on for the owner of the house.

"We are probing the case from different angles. The culprits will soon be brought to book. These seizures are a rude jolt for the TPC," Latehar SP Dhananjay Singh said.

Search operation

Police are continuing their search operation in Muhammedganj area of Palamau district where three Maoist rebels, including zonal commander Ajay Yadav, were killed in a gang war on Friday. A huge cache of arms and ammunition have been recovered and one Uday Oraon arrested.

"During interrogations, Oraon told us that on Friday evening, the Maoists first had verbal altercations with each other over the sharing of levy amounts, which ultimately led to the killings. But, he was not present when the killings took place," said Palamau SP Indrajeet Mahatha.
