Jamshedpur, Sept. 23: Chiffons, kantha-stitched, bomkais, baotis... are all on the list this year. Add a Ritu Beri creation, some antique jewellery, embroidered slippers and a Longines watch for that extra glitter to all the festivities.
The puja rush has begun, in case you haven?t noticed already (which is next to impossible) and the queues seem to be longest at saree showrooms in the city.
?The demand this year is for printed silks, kanjeevarams and bomkais. Pure chiffons and georgettes have also caught the fancy of customers but they want some add-on work and the best are the ones available with kantha stitch and neenjari work. The really extraordinary ones are costly but then pujas are the times when people are ready to splurge,? says Virendera Soni of Nu-York showroom in Bistupur.
Young girls and executives, who usually queue up for western dresses have shifted focus. ?Short kurtis with pathanis and afghanis are the current rage. Pujas are a time when the ethnic and traditional rule,? said Kamal Nagelia of Ashok Vatika, Bistupur.
In fact Ashok Vatika has a surprise for all its customers this pujas. ?It?s time some branded wear came into the city. Ritu Beri is a hallmark as far as women?s fashion is concerned, so we decided to get some pieces from her and the response till now has been awesome,? said the proprietor.
But westerns have not taken a back seat altogether. Shops like Buddy Davis, too, are witnessing quite a footfall as customers keep streaming in for trousers, T-shirts and khakis. Men are experimenting, too. ?Stripes and chequered kurtas and kotis are all over the place,? said Amit Sharma, a shopper. ?Cotton kurtas in bright colours and churidaars are the in-thing,? said Deepak Agarwal of Sheoprasad Sheonarayan, Bistupur.
Shoes are an important accessory, too, as are jewellery for women and watches for men. ?The latest fad in shoes are embroidered slippers. Shoes with PU (polyuretin) soles have also caught the fancy of the shoppers. Men can choose from the Franco Leone semi-formals to the extremely formal leather footwear,? says Narendra Vig of Shoe World, Bistupur.
So, there it is ? the perfect puja look, a head to toe affair.
