Jamshedpur, June 28: Seven new national records were created today, the penultimate day of the National Sub-junior Powerlifting Championship at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
Pulkit Teotia and Swati Singh won laurels for Uttar Pradesh by creating new national records each in the boys’ 90-kg and girls’ 52-kg weight category, respectively.
P. Kyathi of Andhra Pradesh also set a new meet record in the girls’ 56-kg weight category.
The well-built Teotia displayed top form by setting three records in squat (275 kg), benchpress (162.5 kg) and a total weight of 677.5 kg. He shattered the previous squat record of 250 kg created by Parminder Singh of Chandigarh and later broke Delhi’s Rainder Mann’s benchpress mark of 145 kg. The youngster also shattered the total weight record (632.5 kg) set by Parminder.
Swati also created three new national records in squat (133 kg), benchpress (58 kg) and a total weight of 316 kg, breaking the previous squat mark of 132.5 kg created by Sabeena Bhanu of Tamil Nadu. She also eclipsed the 57.5-kg benchpress record of Punjab’s Aparna and brushed aside the total weight record of Sabeena (312.5 kg).
Kyathi created a new national dead lift record of 140 kg. She broke the previous record of 135 kg set by Usha Sri Malkha.
She had a total lift of 310 lift of 310 kg. Priyanka of Maharashtra (total 277.5 kg) and West Bengal’s Chandana Das (250 kg) finished second and third, respectively.
Nitin Sharma of Madhya Pradesh (total weight 547.5 kg) and Shibin P.O. of Kerala (525 kg) finished second and third, respectively in the boys’ 90-kg weight category.
Rajasthan’s Rekha Acharya (300 kg) and Uttar Pradesh’s Vandana Dubey (292.5 kg) stood second and third, respectively.
G.D. Bisoi of Orissa reached the top spot with a total lift of 590 kg in the men’s 90-kg weight category of the eastern India meet being held along with the sub-junior nationals.
Uttam Singh of Tata Steel finished second with 540 kg. Chandana Das of West Bengal bagged the top slot in the women’s 56-kg weight category.
