International music peps up celebrations at IIT(ISM) fest

May be the bird,
May be the nerd....
May be to feel,
There was a deal...
May be the sky,
Wanted itself to fly..."
Dhanbad, March 25: Navneet Das, a BTech final-year student held his head high as he eloquently recited one of his own verses at the English poetry competition on Day Two of Srijan, the annual fest of IIT(ISM) in Dhanbad today.
Besides Navneet, 31 other students of various colleges got a chance to recite their original compositions on love, peace and war in the allotted four minutes.
BTech second-year student of IIT(ISM) Subhangi Bhartiya emerged as the winner, while her batch-mate, Srija Palwon, came second.
"The participants were given a wide range of topics in the poetry competition and winners were adjudged on the basis of their compositions and presentation," said event coordinator Rishabh Mehta.
But, the high point of the day was Avalanche, the rock competition held at the old lecture hall of the institute. Strains of heavy metal, fusion and Bollywood numbers made the audience go berserk, as city-based bands Spandan, Astitva, Audibles, Fraction, Mrigtrishna and Reciprocal strummed and drummed up a storm.
Bangalore-based Iris 13 and a band from Nepal, Elicite, also set the stage on fire.
The star attraction of the day was a mind-boggling performance by Dimlight, a Greek symphonic metal band from Athens. The members of the band also coordinated the band competition and adjudged its winners.
"We received an overwhelming response for the band competition. The participants were both professionals and students. The pre-prelims were held in Kathmandu, Nepal, two weeks ago, through which we selected the final eight," said Rishabh Nigam, a third-year student of IIT(ISM).
Five bands - Astitva, Iris 13, Elicite, Mrigtrishna and Reciprocal - qualified in the final round.
Imaginations ran riot at the face painting contest. Around 68 students from NIT-Patna, IGNOU, DAV-Shyamali and Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Sindri, took part in the event.
On Saturday night, students swayed to the music of DJ Candice Redding and DJ Aceaxe.
The final round of all the events like Rangmanch, a drama competition, Aroah, a classical and western vocals, One-on-One debate and Paridhan, a fashion show will be held tomorrow.
