Jamshedpur, June 12: Couples in the steel city will soon have a platform to resolve their marital discord or other familial problems.
Women?s Integrated Network (WIN), a renowned city-based NGO, has decided to come up with a family counselling centre in the steel city, the first of its kind in the steel city.
?Several city-based NGOs deal with such matters, but most of them lack a professional and scientific approach. This centre will have experts from various fields to provide proper guidance to everybody who approaches us with their problems,? said Dolly Banerjee, secretary of WIN.
The move comes after the NGO reportedly witnessed a rise in the instances of familial discords in the recent past.
?Every month about ten cases, either related to marital problems or dipsutes within the family, comes to us and moreover there are several cases where people have approached us with problems even before marriage,? Banerjee said.
Recently, the NGO received a case where a woman in her late 40s complained of being regularly subject to both physical and mental torture by her alcoholic husband.
?Most of the time it takes years to solve these problems legally, but now we are hopeful that with this centre would provide a platform to such women in a more professional and systemetic way,? she added.
According to the plans, the new family counselling centre would have doctors, psychiatrists, lawyers and several social workers who, in turn, would try and find out the best possible solution to any such problems.
Talks are on with some leading professionals from the city to conduct sessions with such men and woman approaching the centre.
Apart from this, the NGO also plans to start a separate pre-marriage counselling session at the centre.
