Giridih, Nov. 13: Civil surgeon V.K. Singh today conceded that at least three persons died of malaria at Tisri alone even as 30 people are feared to have fallen prey to the disease in the district.

The civil surgeon had sent a medical van to Gawah and Tisri blocks today for instant check-up of suspected malaria patients.

“We have found that three people have died of malaria in Tisri, while 20 villagers are suffering from the disease,” said the civil surgeon.

“There is undoubtedly an outbreak of malaria at Tisri and Gawah. We are doing our best to control it,” said Singh, adding that they did not have exact data from Gawah and a team would again visit the place tomorrow for detailed information about the malaria victims.

Three children of Jeetan Ravidas and the wife and son Arjun Ravidas, both residents of Salaiyatand village of Gawah block, are suspected to have succumbed to the deadly mosquito sting. At least 21 villagers of Tisri also died of malaria in the past 15 days.

“Most of the cerebral malaria patients are coming here from Gawah and Tisri regions,” said Dr S.H. Quasmi, a private practitioner in Giridih.
