Oath to save environment

Jamshedpur, April 22: Over 200 students from various schools in the city celebrated ?Earth Day? today and took an oath to save the environment.

?We realise that we should live with nature and not at the cost of the nature. So, all our activities from now on will be environment friendly,? said the students of ADLS Sunshine School where Earth Day was celebrated.

A series of events were on the cards, the oath taking ceremony being the main attraction of the celebration.

?It was nice to see students, principals and teachers of various schools participate and pledge to save the environment from further hazards,? said Shubha Madan, principal of ADLS Sunshine School.

Earth Day was celebrated with the sole objective to make students aware of burning issues like the rise in environmental pollution, and many others, the principal added.

Prior to this, O.B. Krishna, head, safety and ergonomic, Tata Steel, inaugurated the environment gallery that had artwork related to environment issues like acid rain, ozone hole and aerosol clouds.

A 12 pound cake was ordered to celebrate earth?s birthday.

Based on the theme of earth and its environment a number of contests including fancy dress competition, debate, collage and face painting were organised.

Senior city-based educationists including Shirin Dotivala, principal of Baag-e-Jamshed, Nandani Shukla, principal of Kerala Samajam Model School, Vijayam Kartha, director of Kerala Public School were present on the occasion.
