Jamshedpur, Aug. 25: Non-resident Indians (NRIs) with Jamshedpur links have found a health hub in the steel city, Mahatma Gandhi Arogya Bhavan, where they can get rid of unwanted flab as well as ailments through alternative treatment.
NRIs like Balbinder Kaur visit the centre when they come to the city on business or family meetings.
Kaur, who has been in London for 24 years, is undergoing a capsule course on weight reduction at the Bhavan. Hot and cold water treatment, massage and sauna — under the supervision of instructors — are some of the options available.
The woman, whose in-laws stay in Seraikela, said yoga and naturopathy have become a huge draw in the western countries thanks to the likes of Baba Ramdev and others of his ilk.
“I have come to India after a long time and my family members advised me to join the Arogya Bhavan due to its popularity here,” she said.
“I am getting the healing touch of alternative medicine here. I am sure I will able to reduce the flab during the course,” Kaur, who works as a cashier with a shipping company, said.
Another London-based NRI, Gurminder Singh, said naturopathy and yoga are expensive in Britain but the rates in the steel city are nominal. “People can get all sorts of treatment at the Bhavan,” he said, adding that therapists at the Bhavan take proper care of the patients.
Chief yoga therapist Anil Kumar Rai said the centre attracts a number of NRIs.
Two NRIs — one from Australia and the other from America — recently underwent treatment at the centre. Both of them were originally from Jamshedpur.
