Jamshedpur, Jan. 31: D. Acharya, general manager of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL), has been appointed as the new director (technical).
UCIL is engaged in mining and processing of uranium ore and has, of late, acquired importance in the government?s strategic planning for long-term energy security of the country.
Acharya, a B.Tech (Hons.) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, has also completed an Advanced International Course in Mining Technology from Lulea University, Sweden.
He has also done a course on Project Management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. After initial honing skills in manganese and chromite sectors, Acharya joined UCIL in 1988 and rapidly rose to his present position. Acharya has made a significant input in establishing the first and most mechanised underground mine at Narwapahar.
