Ranchi, April 5: The decks have finally been cleared for the appointment of advocate Ananda Sen and Ranchi Judicial Commissioner A.B. Singh as additional judges of Jharkhand High Court.

The President's office today issued a warrant of appointment in this regard following recommendations of the Supreme Court collegium. The new judges are likely to take oath of office on April 8.

Advocate Sen, who hails from Chaibasa, did his schooling from Assembly of God Church in Calcutta and pursued his BCom course at Bhowanipore Education College. Then he passed his degree of law from Chotanagpur Law College in Ranchi and started practice in Chaibasa in 1997. Subsequently, he joined the Ranchi bench of Patna High Court in 1997 and started practising under the first advocate general of Jharkhand, M.M. Banerjee, in Ranchi from 2000.

Ranchi Judicial Commissioner Singh is known to be a hard taskmaster and a laborious judicial officer. Singh was posted as district judge in Jamshedpur and registrar general of the high court earlier. He is a pioneer in implementing various schemes of National Legal Services Authority and Jharkhand Legal Services Authority and has been awarded by the Prime Minister for the implementation of various welfare projects.

Jharkhand High Court Advocates' Association secretary Hemant Kumar Shikarwar said the appointment of the new judges would speed up disposal of cases in the high court. "We will get two fresh judges who are known for their acumen and judicious bent of mind. The rate of disposal of cases will increase," he added.
