Ranchi, May 26: NCERT has prepared a 400-page combined lab manual to be distributed in CBSE schools to inculcate interest in science among the students of Class IX and X.

The manual would consist of 100 experiments explained in simple terms for easy learning.

Principal of Cambrian Public School G.P. Singh said this is a good initiative. “There are many students who are showing their inclination towards arts while others fear science it’s tough,” Singh added.

Singh added that he would purchase 10 copies of the lab manual for the library so that the students could get them issued. “It is a positive step undertaken by the NCERT officials which would also pave the way for students to take up science,” he said.

The principal of Kairali School, Rajan Verghese, said the manual has been prepared after extensive research. “We already have practical text books which help students to carry out their experiments,” said the principal.

While the principal of Oxford Public School, S.B.P. Mehta said the manual, which would consist of easy experiments, would attract the students and help them feel acquainted with the subjects itself in Class IX and X.

One of the students of Delhi Public School, Ritesh Singh, said they do not have any type of lab manual especially meant for carrying out experiments.

“It is included in the syllabus which we study in the class and thereafter carry out in the science lab,” Singh said.

Singh added that the manual would be helpful. “We cannot carry out the experiments in the lab and face immense problem. But the new manual which is prepared by NCERT is going to help us carry them out,” he added. While another student of DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Naresh Kumar rued that presently they face problems in understanding practical lessons. “The process is quite lengthy as we have to study theory and then carry out the practicals,” said Kumar. “We have to take help from teachers but if the lab manual is published, at least our doubts would be cleared,” he added.

“There are many students who have to study science due to parental pressure to fulfill their dreams. But after taking admission in Class XI they face problems. As such they have to take tuition in different subjects, which also requires a lot of money. The manual gives them a boost,” said a science teacher Mahesh Kumar of DAV School.
