Dhanbad, Sept. 1: A 22-year-old student of Patliputra Medical College (PMC) at Dhanbad has disappeared from the hostel.

In a complaint lodged with Saraidhela police station, Hostel 1 warden Ajay Pratap Singh has stated that Sachin Kumar, a resident of Shahpur in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, has not returned after he left his three-seat room around 8 pm on August 3.

A team of police officials headed by circle inspector Sadar Sheo Chandra Chaudhary visited the college campus for inquiry today after the parents of the boy reached Dhanbad.

Bal Krishna Tiwari, the prefect of Hostel 1, while talking to The Telegraph, said Sachin was unable to cope with the syllabus and had appeared depressed.

The son of a farmer, Sachin had cleared the pre-medical entrance test conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2002. However, he skipped the last terminal test for the first year and left the hostel for an undisclosed destination for almost a fortnight.

He also did not appear in all papers of the university exam for the first MBBS course and could not clear the supplementary examination, which made him lose a year.

Circle inspector Chaudhary said the investigation suggests the boy was not very studious and had of late been inclined to spirituality. He used to visit temples regularly and was devoting a lot of time to worship in his room everyday.

The police official investigating the case also said scripts from his rough notebook collected from his hostel by the police suggest that the boy was in love with a girl when studying at a coaching centre in Meerut in 1998.

His friends have said the girl had probably turned down his proposal at that time, which dejected him.

However, his father Jagmer Singh, who came to Dhanbad today to look for his son, termed the police version of the story ?concocted?.

?My son had left the hostel before the last term in 2003, but had intimated the authorities in writing about his absence in advance. He had a spiritual bent of mind, which has made him achieve much in life. He belonged to a poor family but was a bright student as he had earned scholarships right from Class IV for himself. The police, in order to protect the authorities and protect the mafia, have planted the story of the girl,? Singh added.
