Ranchi, April 21: Book lovers would not have to hunt for a place to find books of their choice under one roof as steps are being taken to construct a well-equipped library by the first week of May.

Governor M. Rama Jois had directed that steps should be taken for the construction of such a library. The Governor’s principal secretary R.S. Sharma held a meeting today to initiate the process.

The representatives of public sector companies, Ranchi University vice-chancellor, the human resources development secretary and people’s representatives attended the meet.

The library was to be made state-of-the-art, open to all and free from government control.

Raj Bhawan sources said: “It would be modern public library run by a society or trust. The state and the Union governments would provide funds for its smooth functioning. Special emphasis would be given on art and culture.”

“The staff members would be appointed by the trust or society. It would be equipped with computers, internet facility, photostat machine and other provisions required for a standard library,” said sources.

“It would be a library with a difference where research work would be carried out. Even cultural activities would be regularly organised there,” they added.

Sources said a final decision would be taken next month. “The first meeting, which was called today, emphasised on collecting ideas from people from different sections of the society. A final decision on the matter would be taken in the next meeting, scheduled to be held in May. The meet would be presided over by the Governor,” they said.
