Cracker ban demand

I wish the sale and bursting of crackers were also banned in Ranchi as that would not only help prevent unwanted accidents, it would also curb air pollution. At least old and sick people like me will welcome such a move.

During Dhanteras and then Chhath, the markets of Sakchi and Bistupur get unusually crowded. On Dhanteras, shops remain open till late at night and traffic is nightmare. Police must make special arrangements at such crowded places in the run-up to these festivals.

Act responsibly 

It is extremely sad to note that a four-year-old girl drowned at Panchghagh waterfalls last week when her parents were busy clicking photos. Instead of depending on the government or volunteers at such tourist spots, visitors need to act responsibly to ensure their own safety.

Swachh priorities

Swachh Bharat is a good initiative by virtue of which villagers can get financial assistance to build toilets. But in Jharkhand, villagers can’t afford two square-meals a day. To talk to “empty-stomachs” about toilets is nothing but a cruel joke. The government should get its priorities right.
