Internet connectivity, biometric attendance and smart classes - Kendriya Vidyalayas are on course to become hi-tech soon.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Ranchi region, will soon adopt Shala Darpan, an online system to maintain database of students that was launched by Union HRD minister Smriti Irani in June this year.

This was shared at the fourth regional three-day principals' conference of KVS, Ranchi, which started at a hotel in Sakchi, Jamshedpur, on Tuesday.

Principals of 39 KVs under Ranchi region have come to take part in the conference that is being hosted by KV, Jamshedpur, this time.

While deputy commissioner of KVS, Ranchi, Nagendra Goyal was the chief guest and inaugurated the meet, assistant commissioners of KVS Jyoti Verma and Niranjan Kumar were also present.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Goyal said around 40 schools under KVS, Ranchi region, would soon start using Shala Darpan.

"Under this system, every detail related to the students starting from attendance to examination papers and study materials to medical conditions, will be recorded in a software for any reference. The portal will provide a parent-teacher interface. We are also planning to introduce smart attendance system, wherein students can register their presence through card punching machines," he said.

"The child-to-computer ratio now stands at 20:1, which was earlier 70:1. We have improved, but still there is a long way to go," he added.
