Kavita Roy has been appointed skipper of Jharkhand’s senior women’s cricket team for the 2013-14 season. Jharkhand State Cricket Association announced the 16-member squad on Sunday.
Apart from Kavita, the team comprises Rinni Burman, Abhisarika Srivastav, Shubhi Pandey and Reena Singh from Jamshedpur; Neelam Yadav and Rakhi Sinha from Dhanbad; Anjana Kumari, Seema Singh, Reena Singh and Shahina Parveen Ashraf from Ranchi and Komal Hora, Niharika Prasad, Rachna Kumari, Shobha Kumari and Kanaklata from Bokaro.
The state will open its campaign with a one-day tournament scheduled partially at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh from December 7 to 15. While league matches will be held at Vijayawada, the venue for knock-out ties has not been confirmed. The selected players will attend a final camp at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Stadium in Jamshedpur from November 27 to December 3. The team will leave for Vijayawada on December 4.
Selection panel convener Aseem Kumar Singh said the players were chosen on the basis of performances at the two-day trials held in Bokaro on November 23 and 24.
“We are hopeful of a good show from them in Vijayawada,” he added.
