Ranchi, June 21: A cultural organisation, which has taken up the cause of promoting dance and theatre across the country, will conduct a 10-day workshop on Kathak here from tomorrow.
The Ranchi branch of Sanskar Bharti has invited Kathak exponent Mala Sharma from Sangeet Bharti, New Delhi for the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated at Lions Club with the objective to prevent “the erosion of culture due to the excessive influence of westernisation through the satellite television”.
Mala happens to be a disciple of Kathak maestro Birju Maharaj. Mala she sees a tremendous potential in the capital and public awareness is the key to make it popular.
Sanskar Bharati is expecting a large number of participants from tomorrow when the workshop starts, said Rakesh Raman, a member of the organisation.
Sanskar Bharati chief Umesh Chandra said, while any political agitation is initiated to serve a group’s self-interest, a cultural agitation brings hearts together.
“This workshop is an agitation on the cultural front. There had been 10 on-the-spot registrations. Many more are expected from tomorrow,” he added.
