Giridih/Bokaro, Feb. 5: Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha (JCM), the students’ wing of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, swept the students’ union election in all six colleges in Giridih and Chas College in Bokaro.
There were altogether 24 seats in six colleges in Giridih. However, JCM had fielded candidates in five colleges — Giridih College, R.K. Mahila College, Adarsh College, Jharkhand College and Langta Baba College.
At R.K. Mahila College and Langta Baba College, JCM bagged all the eight seats. The JCM also performed well at prestigious Giridih College, where it won three seats and lost one — the post of secretary— by six votes to Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
JCM members gheraoed principal U.C. Mehta for three hours, demanding recounting. Later, they lodged a complaint and the college authorities sent the box to university for recounting. The college also witnessed a clash between supporters of ABVP and JCM. The police had to resort to lathicharge to control the situation.
At Jharkhand College and Adarsh College, JCM bagged two seats each. JD(U) won two seats in Jharkhand and ABVP two in Adarsh College. At Sanskrit College, where only four candidates of ABVP contested the polls, all four were declared winners without polls.
National Students’ Union of India and Jharkhand Vikash Chhatra Morcha, whose superemo Babulal Marandi resides in Giridih, could not even open their accounts.
