
Senior JDU leader Sushil Singh filed his nomination for the Dhanbad mayoral poll on Tuesday while over three dozen candidates submitted their papers for various wards.
Singh, who is the first candidate to have completed the formalities for the mayor's post since May 2 when the filing of nominations began, arrived at the office of additional collector Manoj Kumar in the morning, along with over two hundred supporters.
"I have decided to contest the poll to fulfil the aspirations of common people. The residents are frustrated with the problems of acute water crisis, pollution and lack of sanitation," Singh said.
The senior JDU leader further said given the opportunity, he would try his level best to develop Dhanbad as a smart city. "A mayor should have long-term plans for different civic issues like solid waste management, water supply etc," he said.
Candidates, who filed nominations for councillors' posts, include Radheshyam Jaiswal (ward No. 402) Chotan Yadav (273), Rajkumari Devi (334), Prabha Devi (335) and Indra Devi (316) and Priyanka Sinha (317).
