Paharias in armed protest

Dumka: Hundreds of armed hill people or Paharias blocked the Sahebganj-Borio main road near Durgatola on Thursday to protest the illegal felling on their lands.

Traffic came to a standstill for hours as the Paharias from Rajmahal tried to draw the administration?s attention against the non-Paharias entering their territory and cutting down trees. The blockade ended after district superintendent of police Pankaj Kumar Darad intervened.

10-yr term

Dhanbad: One Biltu Sao was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his eight-year-old niece by the Dhanbad fast track court IV of P.K. Choubey on Friday.

Robbers nabbed

Dhanbad: Two criminals, Chinta Prasad Mahto and Kundan Kumar Mahto, from Udaipur, Dhanbad, who were wanted in two murder cases, besides several cases of highway robberies, were arrested and found with two country-made pistols and ammunition on Friday afternoon.

House stormed

Jamshedpur: A gang of armed people stormed into the residence of one Kamal Bhagat at Ghatodih village under Potka police station on Thursday night and threatened to kill him.

According to the FIR filed at Potka station, the criminals had intimidated Bhagat and his family by brandishing pistols. Later, they fled with Rs 4,000. Police sources said the attack was the result of a demonstration the victim had led against a construction company at Potka. They added Bhagat had opposed the acquisition of land and had organised the villagers to demonstrate against the move.

Karate win

Ranchi: Red House won by 22 points during the two-day Isma Inter-house Karate Championship, which was inaugurated by the president of Ranchi Athlete?s Association Sergeant Major Asim Kumar Das Gupta on Friday. The concluding day of the meet is April 8.

Workshop

Ranchi: A two-part workshop on the ?Art of Living? will be organised on April 14 and 29, comprising a basic course at Balika Shiksha Bhavan at Lalpur Chowk.

Entrance forms

Ranchi: The entrance tests for the Ranchi University MCA course will be held on May 14.

Students who wish to sit for the examination can procure the admission forms worth Rs 650 from the mathematics department from April 10. Last date for form submission is May 6.
