Court on cowshed shift
Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court directed the animal husbandry, urban development and land and revenue department secretaries to file a counter affidavit to rehabilitate
khatal owners outside the city. The court while hearing a petition filed for removal of
khatals from city limits asked the officials to state what has been done to re-locate the
khatal owners and how much time will be taken to complete the formalities.
Farmers? sops
Ghatshila: Agricultural equipment were distributed among farmers of all the six blocks at the Vijay Mela. The mela was organised to celebrate the 150th year of Hul Divas. The mela was held at Netaji Subhas Nagar Bhavan. The deputy commissioner of East Singhgbhum, Nitin Madan Kulkarni was the chief guest. He distributed equipment under Prime Minister Rozgaar Yojna, Swarn Jayanti Gramin Swarozgar Yojna, Kisaan Credit Card and revolving funds of NGOs.
AIDS drive
Bahragora: Alternative for India Development organised a mega programme at the Jai Prakash Narayan Community Hall, Bahragora. The programme was held to bring more people from different walks of life to become a part of the fight against the alarming increase of STD/HIV/AIDS cases. The programme invited participation from three states ? Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa. Shiv Shankar Birua, civil surgeon, East Singhbhum, was the chief guest. Sunil Mahto, MP from Jamshedpur was the guest of honour.
Life sentence
Bokaro: Judge of the fast track court II of Bokaro, A.K. Dubey, sentenced Ravishar Hansda to life imprisonment and Rs 5,000 penalty for killing 70-year-old Chummu Devi with a log. In a case filed at Harla police station, Shakuntala Devi had said Ravishar had forcefully entered her house while she was sleeping with her mother-in-law Chummu Devi. He pulled the old woman outside and beat her with a wooden log till she bled to death.
Threat calls
Ranchi: An FIR has been lodged at the Argora police station by builder Rishi Prakash Mishra about threat calls he has been receiving for a month. Mishra said one Appu Jha of Patna, has been repeatedly calling him up and asking for Rs 5 lakh. He has also been threatened of dire consequences if he does not pay the money. The police said Mishra has been provided with adequate security.
