Ranchi, April 27: The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has proposed a single entrance test each for admissions to both Netarhat Residential School and Indira Gandhi Residential Girls’ School, followed by a final round of interview.

The prestigious state-run schools have been conducting two entrance tests, preliminary and mains, followed by an interview for admitting 100 students to the Netarhat school in Latehar and 75 to the Hazaribagh-based girls school. The entrances are held for admissions to class VI.

“We have mooted the proposal to the state government, as the number of applicants for admissions to both institutions have gradually decreased,” JAC chairperson Laxmi Singh told The Telegraph.

Singh, however, added that JAC would ensure adequate publicity, starting at the level of BDOs, for admissions to the residential schools.

Admissions have been delayed this year, following a cabinet decision granting special status to both institutions in the light of the Right To Education (RTE) Act, which rules out entrance tests for admissions to government schools.

Singh added that despite delays, they were hopeful of ending the admission process by August. JAC is likely to finalise the dates for entrance tests tomorrow.
