Ranchi, Dec. 2: A truce between Hindalco Industries Limited and the people of Latehar seems imminent.

Representatives of the flagship Aditya Birla Group company — facing protests over a decision to shift its proposed 3.25 lakh tonne smelter plant from Latehar to Sonahatu, Ranchi — today held talks with people’s representatives.

R.P. Sharma, senior vice-president, Hindalco corporate affairs, said the meeting, also attended by political leaders, had decided to review resources in Latehar.

“We had decided to shift the site following a recommendation from a government committee that had said rain-fed rivers in Latehar would not be able to provide the required amount of water. We will re-examine thing,” he said.
