Jamshedpur, May 26: The little Einsteins of Jamshedpur have stunned the world, yet again. This time, Hill Top School is in the limelight for inventing a unique water filter at the International Students’ Science Fest held in Singapore.

Hill Top along with St Kabir Memorial School, Chandigarh, were adjudged the best at the fest, which saw participation from 29 schools from across the world. While the former created a solar water filter named sun soak, St Kabir devised the usage of vermi composed fertilisers for better agriculture. The fest was held from May 20.

The teams, consisting of three students each, were asked to give a power point presentation followed by model making.

Judged by the teachers of National Junior College, Singapore, the teams were marked on their utility, practicality and relevance.

“The process used in the filter is distillation. The device contains wooden box, plain mirror and a glass apparatus in form of triangle. The plain mirror reflects the sun rays towards the glass apparatus, which refracts the rays thereby increasing the temperature and purifying the water,” said Srikant Suresh, one of the three students, who participated at the fest. The other two are Vivek Vishal and Anant Kachru.

“We wanted to create something that will be useful to the society and not be restricted to theory only. Though it may have its pros and cons, the idea is quite workable,” he said.

Sangeeta Halder, the chemistry teacher, who accompanied the team to Singapore said: “This was the first international exposure for our students and we were happy to get such a recognition,” she said.
