Jamshedpur, May 31: More than 200 special kids will assemble in the city to participate in the National Handball Championship.
The meet will be organised by the Tata Steel sports department under the aegis of the state chapter of Special Olympics Bharat (SOB). The JRD Tata Sports Complex will be the venue of the tournament scheduled for November.
Unlike the conventional handball meets, the participants will be categorised according to the level of disability in them.
National sports director of SOB Charles Borromeo said: ?It would take some time to prepare for the event as it would be different from the commonplace handball championships,? he added. Borromeo further added that 18 states have confirmed participation in the event.
There would be no age bar for the participants. ?The point is to provide as much cheer as possible for those who are less fortunate,? added Borromeo, also a senior official of Tata Steel sports department.
In the competition, the teams will be divided into groups and top teams from each groups will be declared champions. All the participants will be awarded a token gift in appreciation of their effort. The officials of SOB added that trained coaches armed with technical expertise will conduct the championship as the participants will need special care.
