Jamshedpur: Passengers can now avail themselves of the Ola cab facility from Tatanagar station.

The private cab aggregator on Friday rolled out its service from Tatanagar following an agreement between Chakradharpur railway division and ANI Technologies, which runs the cab service.

"The agreement will be effective till 2021 and will be renewed thereafter," Bhaskar, senior divisional commercial manager of Chakradharpur, said.

Under the pact, Ola will have to pay a fee to park its cabs at the designated slot close to the exit gate of the station.

Currently, six to seven cabs can be accommodated at the parking slot. The number of cabs in the fleet can be increased depending on the response.

"Although the app-based service was introduced in the steel city in 2016, calling a cab to the station during peak hours has always been tough owing to the harassment over parking fee. So, Chakradharpur railway division took the initiative to save passengers from being fleeced by parking agencies and rogue autos," Bhaskar said.

A spokesperson for Chakradharpur division Moinak Dutta said passengers could either use the Ola app to pay the fare or make cash payments. A counter will soon be opened near the Ola pic-up point for those seeking help.

Passengers welcomed the development.

"We can now avoid being victimised by auto-rickshaws that often charge fare based on their whims and fancies, especially at night. The Ola cab service will help to ensure transparency in fares and comfort," said Reshmi Sahay, a bank employee and a resident of Bistupur.

Businessman and frequent traveller M.K. Sharma than-ked the Chakradharpur railway division for the initiative.

"I always opt for Ola. The cab service at Tatanagar station will help passengers who can now get a car after immediately after alighting from a train," he said.
