Jamshedpur, June 2: The grading system in CBSE may have made it easy for marks-wary Class X examinees, but when it comes to Plus two admission criteria, the schools never had it so hard.

With the board introducing the new cumulative grade point average (CGPA) system instead of percentage, city CBSE schools have failed to follow uniformity while fixing the admission guidelines. Although the CBSE has suggested selection of candidates on the basis of calculation of indicative percentage of marks, it has also kept other options open.

“We are calculating the grade point of each subject with the preference being given to science subjects. The process is tedious and difficult as we have to compare the grades of so many students, but we have no other option,” said principal of Jamshedpur Public School Lalita Sareen.

“If there is a tie in one particular subject, we will compare the next compulsory subject, i.e. English. We are also following the first come, first serve process,” she added.

DAV Public School, Bistupur, is calculating the indicative percentage of a student by multiplying the CGPA with the grade point of a particular subject. The board has also uploaded the percentage converter on the website. For example, if the CGPA of a student is 9.8 and the grade point of a particular subject is 9, the indicative percentage will be 88.2.

Delhi Public School has decided to stuck to entrance test besides comparing the CGPA. “We are following both methods as we want to take the best of the lot,” said principal Dhananjay Pan.

On the other hand, DAV Public School, Adityapur, is offering direct admissions to those who have a CGPA of 9.5. Those with grade point of 9 in main subjects will be given preference. It is also following the first come, first serve policy.
