Jamshedpur: After surviving on mar-bhaat for almost entire his life, it was finally time for Golden Boy Gora Ho to relish a plateful of chicken and rice, albeit with his mind focused on the bullseye during the Asia Cup in Bangkok.

The Seraikela-Kharsawan archer, who claimed the recurve team gold in his international debut on Thursday, had an inkling that something good was about to happen.

" Hamesha lagta tha ki gold jitunga. Thodi bechaini thi par apne aap par bahut viswas tha (I always believed that one day I will win gold. I was a bit nervous but believed in my abilities)," Gora told The Telegraph over phone from Delhi.

The 17-year-old archer, who also finished 17th in the junior individual round in Asia Cup, returned to Delhi on Friday from where he will head to Rohtak to take part in an ongoing national camp .

According to Gora, during his weeklong stay in Bangkok, one thing that he looked forward to other than the practice sessions was a meal of rice and chicken. " Dono samay chicken aur bhaat hi chala. Maja aa gaya. Gold jitkar toh aur bhi maja aaya (Got to eat chicken and rice for both lunch and dinner. Relished the food. Felt all the more r winning the gold)," he said.

On his first trip abroad, Gora said it was a memorable experience although he didn't have time to look around the place . "I was busy preparing for the competition," Gora said.

Gora will be in Jamshedpur to participate in the national selection trials at JRD Tata Sports Complex from March 15 to 18.

Gora's mentor B.S. Rao said his ward need sponsors to build a career in archery. "Gora hails from a poor family. Sponsorship will work wonders for him," he added.
