Spun with love in Jharkhand, sought after across the globe.
Jharcraft’s silken swish has created quite a demand for its product in foreign shores, with authorities of the handicraft development corporation now busy sending samples of their work to inquisitive buyers across the globe.
Jharcraft MD Dhirendra Kumar, who is back in the state after showcasing Jharkhand’s famous organic silk products at the Biofach International Fair 2012 in Germany, said he has been co-ordinating with potential buyers, most of whom had shown a keen interest in conducting business with the corporation.
The Biofach fair, where more than 44 exhibitors from nine countries showcased their products from February 15 to 18, saw the Jharkhand handloom products stealing the limelight. Riding high on this success, Jharcraft authorities now believe that they would be able to expand its turnover in the next financial year.
“The Germany tour was phenomenal as it has given us exposure to an international market with demands for organic products. This will certainly boost our sales across the globe,” Kumar said.
He added that during his visit he got a chance to interact with a number of potential buyers for their products that will help in opening up new markets for them.
Sources said that among those vying to conduct business with Jharcraft was none other than C&A, an international fashion chain that had its presence in more than 26 countries and owned brands like Angelo Litrico, Canda, Clockhouse, Here+There, Palomino, Westbury, Yessica, Yessica Pure, and Your Sixth Sense.
This apart, representatives from a number of luxury hotel chains as well as some interior designers from America also held parleys with Kumar.
The Jharcraft MD said that as of now he was going to send handloom samples to about 90 buyers across the globe, most of whom had asked for specimens of silk fabrics, which are spun by weavers in the rural pockets of Jharkhand.
“I will discuss the issue with other Jharcraft officials before deciding which samples to send. There are buyers across Europe keen to join hands in business with us. We focussed on home furnishing products during the fair,” Kumar said.
Jharcraft had recently participated in Heimtextil in Frankfurt, Germany, one of the biggest global trade fairs for home and contract textiles, to market its home furnishings.
Heimtextil, which aims to give a platform for manufacturers, retailers and designers across the globe to come together, proved to be the perfect launch pad for Jharcraft products.
