Jamshedpur, May 23: The overall results for CBSE Plus Two in the steel city was impressive, with girls scoring over boys. But papers like mathematics and physics dampened the spirits a bit this year.

Anindita Mahato of St Mary’s English School topped in science with 93.4 per cent, while Arpit Lodha of DAV Public School, Bistupur, got the highest in commerce. He topped the city by securing 93.2 per cent. Emerging as the city topper in Bio science was Doyel Sinha of DAV Public School, Bistupur, who got 92 per cent marks.

School authorities, however, said the results were overall satisfactory.

“On the whole, I am satisfied with the results. The students of my school have performed well. In fact, this year we focussed on improvement of weak students. Besides extra classes, we held separate counselling sessions for improvement in their performance,” said principal of St Mary’s English School, Gerald Martin D’Souza.

Vice-principal of DAV Public School, Pragya Singh, echoed him. “The overall performance of students have been good. Our students came out with flying colours achieving 100 per cent results,” she said.

The students of Vidya Bharti Chinmaya Vidyalaya (VBCV) also performed well. But, unlike last year, there was a drop in percentage of marks secured by the students. Ayush Agarwal topped in pure science, securing 91 per cent, followed by Nikita Chaudhary and Karna Chakraborty, who secured 87.6 and 87.2 per cent, respectively. Preiti topped the school in commerce, securing 90 per cent while Shaista Parween got 89.8 per cent marks and adjudged the second city topper in Bio science.

Last year, Kumar Amritesh of science stream had emerged as the city topper from this school securing a whopping 93 per cent.

Rishika Sharan, who scored the highest in pure science from Jamshedpur Public School, said: “The score this time has been good considering the CBSE standards. But I was expecting more.”

“I had expected just this much and I am happy with what I have scored,” said Anindita Mahto, the science topper from the city.

She is in Calcutta to appear for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination. She wants to become a computer engineer.

“She had stood first throughout her career in school. We are happy with her performance. We would be more happy if she succeeds in IIT-JEE, the results of which are scheduled to be declared on May 30,” said Manju Mahto, mother of Anindita.

Arpit Lodha, the city topper in commerce, said: “I had worked hard and was expecting good results.”
