Ranchi, Aug. 28: Four children were killed and their parents injured when a “kutcha” house collapsed at Moro Jumra Toli village under Itki police station late last night after heavy rain.

The victims included Sukra Toppo (6), Etwa Toppo (9), Asha Toppo (11) and Shashi Toppo (13). The injured — Birsu Toppo and Birsi Topno — are undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences.

Sources said the incident took place after heavy rainfall in the area. “The area was lashed by heavy rain last night. When the rain stopped, the victim’s house collapsed at around 12.45 am and four children were killed on the spot,” the sources added.

Sources said that only Birsu’s house collapsed in the rain. “When villagers realised that a house had collapsed, they panicked thinking all other houses were crumbling,” said a local resident.

Adivasi Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch leader Bandhu Tirkey, Adivasi Sarana Samiti leader Chamra Linda and Samata party leader Bige Minz visited the village.
