Ranchi, Oct. 7: Hospitality sector in the city is awaiting revamp with a Rs 50-crore five-start hotel being proposed near Kantatoli Chowk.
The proposal by Chandra Mohan Kapoor, if realised, would change the scenario of the city, which lacks a five-star destination although being a state capital. “The land was purchased last year and the official process will be finalised soon. The name of the hotel, Chinar’s International, is tentative,” said Kapoor, the owner of Hotel Chinar, Chinar Sweets and Chasm-e-Sahi, adding the project would start in December.
The 300-room hotel, with an in-house shopping mall, will come up on a 3-acre plot opposite the crematorium. “The crematorium is not at all a problem, as the hotel will be situated at a prime location in the city,” said Kapoor, adding that his company would also talk to the Taj and Oberoi groups so that it can get help from the hospitality giants.
The possible tie-up will only be limited to services — like chefs — so that the Chinar group of hotel, to be designed by Mumbai-based architect Sanjay Puri, can achieve international standard as far as services are concerned, hinted Kapoor.
The hotel will have 350 underground car parking system with the rooms being equipped with all modern facilities. It will also house five banquet halls with three restaurants, including a coffee bar and soufflé. The largest banquet hall will comprise an area of 12,000sqft along with a multipurpose hall. According to the blueprint, the area of the garden will be 4,500sqft with planned open space for the garden adjoining the banquets.
“Two gardens are planned in front of the two banquet halls and the place surrounding the swimming pool to be exclusively used for parties,” said Kapoor.
“We will also have four conference halls for delegates,” said Kapoor, adding that a state-of-the-art multigym was also on the anvil.
“As I am into hotel business for years, so I thought of starting a five-star hotel which the state is devoid of. After multiplex, we thought that people here should get five-star facilities as lots of corporates and multinational companies are coming up,” Kapoor added.
The norms of a five-star hotel are quite strict with specifications, like swimming pool and 24-hour restaurants, are also included in the list. The process of classifying a hotel starts only after a hotel’s promoter applies to the Union tourism ministry, which sends its team to rate the hotel according to its norms. Whether the city gets a five-star or a five-star deluxe hotel will only be known when Kapoor applies for the rating.
