Jamshedpur, April 5: If Bengali delicacies make your mouth water, take time out to attend Jolsa (cultural fiesta) organised by the Bengali community, as part of the pre-Poila Boishakh (Bengali New Year) celebrations, at Golmuri Club on April 9

Members of the club have formed a committee to manage the event.

Specialists in Bengali cuisine will be appointed to prepare the spread. Fish of different varieties — chingri (prawn), kaatla (katla), rui (rohu) and ilish (hilsa) — chicken, vegetables, chapati, naan, fried and plain rice, chutney, papad have been lined up for the main course. Deserts like rosogullas, sondesh, mishti doi and an assortment of sweet dishes will follow.

If food is the first love of Bengal, then music comes a close second. “We have arranged a programme on Rabindrasangeet as any Bengali occasion remains incomplete without it. Some popular jeebonmukhi (pop) artists will also perform during the programme,” said an official of the club.

The club management has requested Bengali members to turn up in traditional Bengali attire — women in lal paad sada saree (white saree with red border) and men in typical dhoti-kurta and punjabi.

“We are hosting the occasion for the first time and hope to make it a success. We have asked Bengali members to wear typical bangla dresses,” said club secretary Anand Krishna. Members of other city clubs have also been invited, he added. “Rabindra Sangeet and Bengali pop songs would also be a part of the evening,” he said.
