Ranchi, May 9: City-based schools have decided to come down heavy on the summer vacations. They have decided to hold special classes during the vacations.

In most schools, summer vacations would start from May 14 and would go on till June 13. Special summer classes would be conducted for students of Classes X and XII during the vacations.

However, not all are happy with this decision.

Students who planned to spend their vacations outside the state, obviously have had to cancel the trips. ?This summer my father would have taken me to Mussourie. I was really looking forward to it. But everything had to be rearranged because of the special classes in school this time,? said Saket, a student.

Parents, too, have expressed their resentment against school managements for conducting extra classes during summer vacation.

?I see no point in holding special classes during vacations. Summer holidays are always the longest and this is a good time to travel outside and be together,? said Renu Kumari, mother of Sweta Kumari, who is a student of DAV Public school.

On the other hand, principal of Army School C. J. Jacob said, ?I don?t think if a student attends special coaching classes for a week their summer holidays would be affected in any way. Our school will organise the coaching classes from June 1 and in that case they can enjoy all the 30 days of May,? added Jacob.

Principal of Cambrian Public school N.M. Mankad said, ?Though the school has not planned any thing as yet, we may arrange special coaching classes for subjects like maths and science. I really feel that attending coaching classes for a week should not be a problem, keeping in mind the fact that these classes are being arranged to benefit the students. Also, these classes are only for revision and providing the students with extra time that we cannot afford during the regular school schedule. The classes would be useful for clarification of their doubts.?

Coordinator of St Xavier?s school, plus two section, Heera Prasad said, ?Our coaching classes are for students who are weak in particular subjects. This is simply to provide them with an additional guidance.?

However, H.N. Sahay, father of Amit Sahay, who is a student of class X, is of the opinion that schools should have let the parents know about it beforehand so that they would not have had to reschedule everything.
