Patna, Nov. 2: Two weeks after special vigilance wing recovered property worth crores from a state drug controller, vigilance sleuths today arrested an excise inspector at Nalanda and subsequently recovered property papers worth lakhs during a raid at his Puniachak residence.

Vigilance additional director-general of police Neelmani said: “Inspector Vijay Kumar Chaurasia was arrested while he was accepting Rs 5,000 from a licensed liquor shopowner, as a monthly bribe.” Vigilance had earlier received complaints against the inspector.

“Though the bribe money recovered is only Rs 5,000, we have recovered Rs 3.5 lakh in cash, 25 pass books, fixed deposit papers worth Rs 15 lakh and papers of seven plots at Patna and Darbhanga,” said Neelmani. Vigilance would initiate action against the inspector in a case of disproportionate assets under Corruption-linked efforts for affirmative action.
