Ranchi, Jan. 29: Has ancient Egypt always fascinated you? Giant pyramids standing tall, pharaohs being mummified, elegant gold statues of kings and queens long gone and mysterious coffins scattered around.

Soon you could enjoy all this and more in Ranchi itself.

Rock Garden has recreated the ancient Egyptian world and now the most-awaited project is ready for public viewing.

The pyramid-shaped Bhoot Bangla, as it is called, has four rooms that have coffins, “live” mummies, sleeping mummies and also a guide to take visitors through the enchanting world of Egypt. The mummies will operate on a light and sound mechanism.

The interior of the pyramid is done up with a gold paint and is adorned with paintings and hieroglyphics — Egyptian lettering.

The project has been executed by Calcutta based 22 Artisans. This pyramid has come up in an area of 3,600sqft.

Pullock Mukherjee, a designer from Calcutta who has worked on the project, said statues were shaped as mummies.

“It took us almost a year to complete the project. We have worked on the mechanism in such a way that mummies start moving,” added Mukherjee.

Rock Garden is a prime tourist destination in the state capital. The Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA) had handed over the site to the Calcutta-based Nerve Knock Park Theme Private Limited on a 21-year lease in 1998.

However, an incident had caused the park to be sealed off on August 15, 2006. Thus the company lost out on revenues.

The RRDA has slapped a demand of Rs 6 lakh against the private company asking them to clear off the dues but the company challenged the petition and claimed compensation for the loss suffered by it due to the seal off.

Yesterday, the high court directed the RRDA to go easy on the company and not take any coercive action to recover the dues.
