Ranchi, Dec. 28: One of the 20 CCTV cameras installed a week ago at the home of Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni at Harmu Housing Colony has been stolen.

The incident apparently took place on December 25, but the cricketer’s family members became aware of the theft this evening and informed the police.

City superintendent of police Sambhu Thakur confirmed the theft and said the cricketer’s elder brother Narendra Singh Dhoni lodged an FIR in this connection at the Argora police station this evening. A probe has been launched.

Thakur said whoever committed the crime, scaled a 10-feet-high boundary wall to do so. “The camera was installed on the boundary wall at the rear of the house,” he added.

Narendra Singh Dhoni could not be contacted for comment. The cricket captain’s brother-in-law Gautam Gupta confirmed the incident but would not provide details.

“The incident took place around 3.30am on December 25. That was evident from the footage recorded by that camera till it was stolen,” he said.

Dhoni’s mother Devki Devi, father Paan Singh, brother Narendra and his wife Meenakshi live in the three-storied house, which is guarded by three armed securitymen.

This is the first time that something has been stolen from the house since the family moved in on November 27 last year.

Last year on January 1, the cricketer had sought police help after his parents received extortion threats from criminals. The extortion letters were sent to the family’s old residence in Mecon Colony under Doranda police station area.
