If you are a fitness freak, then head for the recently-renovated golf ground equipped with modern exercise equipment’s in its open gymnasium. In fact, courtesy, the latest machines, it has become a hub for health freaks in the morning and evening. The equipment including, double surfing post, double wheel shoulder builder, elliptical exerciser, leg press cum air walker, double standing twister have been installed last week as part of comprehensive renovation cum beautification work carried out by Dhanbad Municipal Corporation at a cost of Rs 4.48 crore.
DMC, as part of its beautification work, has also developed several other facilities including jogging track, skating zone, children play zone , yoga platform, meditation platform, green zone, children park. Talking to The Telegraph Online, Sudhir Yadav, a civil service aspirant, said “ I am a regular visitor of the park for the last couple of months and the rush has further increased in the last one week as large of number of youths have throng to workout in the open gymnasium of the park.”
He added that exercise under the open air has an altogether different experience so many of those who were not much accustomed to the equipment, have also started workingout with it.
Siddharth Murmu (20), an engineering diploma student, pursuing a three-year course in electrical engineering from KK ITI institute Dhanbad while interacting with the students said, “I have been a regular visitor to the park along with five other students of my institute for the last few months and we were planning to join a gym for workout but as the equipments were installed in the park we dropped the idea for time being.”
He further lauded, Dhanbad Municipal Corporation for the bettering the park facilities and added that besides the development of the park at Bekar Bandh, situated less than 500 metre away from the District Headquarters, a new avenue for spending the leisure time has been provided to coal town residents.
Notably, the ground spread over 12 acres of area, was previously used as a golf course during the British era and later developed into a shooting range. Shooting practice however was halted in the late 1970s and the ground was used by morning walkers till 1990s after which a proper boundary wall was built around the park and a pavilion that was set up in 2001.
