Jamshedpur, April 10: The dream of developing Patamda into a tourist destination might soon become a reality with the tourism department giving its nod to the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) to go ahead with its project there.

Sources at the tourism directorate said the tourism department has approved Rs 2.50 crore for the project.

Work at the proposed site is likely to begin next month, said sources.

The ITDC had earlier submitted a proposal for the Patamda project to the tourism directorate and had made a presentation before former chief minister Babulal Marandi. ITDC officials said Marandi’s response was encouraging.

“We got a positive response from the government for the development of the site which could be turned into a tourist destination,” said an ITDC official.

Senior ITDC official A.B. Kumar would head the project. Kumar said: “We have plans to construct mini-cottages and cafeterias, besides a theme park for children. We also plan to have some facilities for water-sports at Patamda, situated along the Dimna Lake in the foothills of Dalma”.

“We are happy that the amount approved by the tourism department can help in developing the tourism infrastructure. Patamda could be developed into a tourist destination because it is situated near the Dimna Lake where a large number of tourists come, especially during winter. We would ensure that the work for the project begins next month,” he said. Sources said initially ITDC had to face some problems for acquiring land in Patamda.
