Ranchi, July 29: Singhbhum MP Madhu Koda will not be able to attend the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament this week as the state was unable to decide who would escort the jailed former chief minister on his journey to Delhi. Koda was scheduled to leave today.

He will now leave for Delhi on Saturday and attend Lok Sabha proceedings from August 2.

Sources said Koda had booked a first class AC ticket on Swarna Jayanti Express scheduled to leave Ranchi railway station this afternoon. But as the state could not finalise an escort, the plan was aborted.

The state finally decided on an escort only after Koda missed his train.

“Proper security will be extended to the former chief minister during his journey to and from Delhi. The policemen from Jharkhand who will escort him there will not stay in Delhi but return as the Delhi administration would have the onus of providing security and escort to Koda when attends Parliament from Tihar jail,” Ranchi senior superintendent of police Praveen Kumar Singh said.

The monsoon session which commenced on July 26 will conclude on August 27. The long session includes 24 sittings spread over a period of 33 days.

Meanwhile, Birsa Munda central jail authorities seemed prepared from their side after receiving a vigilance court order allowing Koda to take part in the monsoon session.

“We need to hand over the former chief minister to police custody. Thereafter it would be the police’s responsibility,” Birsa Munda central jail superintendent Deepak Vidyarthi told The Telegraph.
