Ranchi, Aug. 15: Jharkhand Raksha Shakti University, whose foundation stone was laid by defence minister Manohar Parrikar on January 23 this year, will issue admission forms for its maiden batch from tomorrow.

S.K. Sinha, a chemistry professor of SS Memorial College in Ranchi, who is on deputation as admission in-charge for the university, confirmed to The Telegraph about their plans for students' admission. Sinha said that the state government had decided tobegin classes tentatively from September 16. "In each discipline, we have decided to enrol 40 students initially," Sinha said, adding that anyone could walk in at their office at ATI (Skipa auditorium) during office hours to collect forms.

Asked about the faculty structure, the chemistry professor informed that they had zeroed in on many subject experts, but were currently finalising the names. A formal announcement will be made soon.

So how will the students be screened? "Upon receipt of forms from interested candidates, we shall prepare a merit list on the basis of marks secured in Plus Two and matric levels. So far, conducting an entrance exam has not been decided yet," he informed.

Asked about the cut-offs set for selecting students, Sinha said they weren't disclosing it at the moment. "Cut-offs have been decided, but we have planned to keep them confidential to see the quality of applicants at the moment," he added.

Popularly known as ATI or Skipa building, Sinha said the premises had sufficient space to start operation till a new permanent campus come up.

According to a source, around 25 acres are being scouted for a permanent campus. "Conceptualised as a state university under the department of higher and technical education, the new varsity is being planned somewhere in Khunti where the knowledge city is proposed," the source added.
