Jamshedpur, May 9: The forest department today forwarded the two youths ? Dinesh Murmu and Manu Murmu ? arrested for killing a barking deer during the annual tribal hunting festival, Vishu Shikar, at Dalma yesterday.
The youths were caught red-handed by the forest officials with the beheaded barking deer with their four-wheeler and traditional weapons, while they were coming down from the Dalma.
Divisional forest officer (wildlife) Dinesh Kumar said the department had set up an inquiry to find out how the tribal youths managed to reach the habitat of barking deer and kill the animal.
?Barking deer is a protected animal. Any one found guilty of killing it is liable to punishment under Wildlife Protection Act,? said Kumar.
He also said that if involvement of others is established in killing the animal during the probe, they would also be booked in the same case. ?This will be decided only after the inquiry report is ready,? he added.
Meanwhile, a tribal woman Budu Murmu lodged a complaint against some forest department officials accusing them of misbehaving with her.
In the complaint lodged with the Mango police, the woman has said: ?The forest department officials misbehaved with me at Fadlugoda and even tore my clothes. The officials also threw away the eatables I had kept in my roadside shop.?
East Singhbhum additional superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar Jha said they had received the complaint of the woman against the ?misbehaviour? by some forest department officials.
?As Fadlugoda come under the jurisdiction of Chandil police station in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, we have forwarded the case there for necessary action,? said Jha.
He said it is the responsibility of the Chandil police to investigate the allegation levelled by the woman against the forest department officials and register a case accordingly. Officer-in-charge of Chandil police station Naresh Sahay said he had sent a message to the woman?s house for providing details.
