Jamshedpur, Feb. 23: Eighteen-year-old Munna Barjo was today produced before the chief judicial magistrate (Chaibasa district court) for the slaughter of a rare deer in adjoining West Singhbhhum district, our correspondent reports.
A critically-injured barking deer, a protected species under Schedule III of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, was hacked to death and feasted upon by villagers of Shagwan Hatting under Kiriburu block of the district on February 21.
Saranda forest ranger Suresh Prasad has slapped cases under non-bailable sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the Conservation Act, against the village youth. The accused was sent to Chaibasa prison today itself.
