Jamshedpur, March 12: Power supply in the state was disrupted early this morning following a snag at a sub-station in the Chandil grid.

As a result of the breakdown, the Chandil grid was paralysed for about an hour, disrupting power supply to the entire state. The breakdown affected power supply to the Patratu, Hatia, Rajkharsawan, Adityapur and Golmuri power sub-stations.

The fault damaged 15 “jumpers” of the sub-station. The supply resumed about an hour after the damaged jumpers were replaced.

Sources said the Chandil sub-station became non-functional around 5.25 am but by 6.30 am power supply resumed in all the areas except the Adityapur sub-station.

Source said the line connecting the Adityapur sub-station was severely damaged. It would take 48 hours to repair the damage, sources said. In the meantime, power is being supplied to the Adityapur sub-station from the Ramchandrapur grid.

Sources said being the most important power grid in the state, priority was given to the Chandil grid. “Because of priority in repair work power supply could be restored,” sources said.

General manager, JSEB’s Jamshedpur area board, Devendra Kumar, rushed to the spot to supervise the repair work.

He told The Telegraph that the trouble cropped up due to the defective jumpers.

He said a similar problem had surfaced at the Gamharia grid as well.

However, officials from the board’s generation and transmission organisation, the Ramchandrapur grid and the Jamshedpur area board’s head office rushed to the spot and started repairing the fault. By 11 am, power supply resumed.

Kumar said: “The fault was not on the main route, but at the Chandil sub-station. The sub-station’s jumpers had been emitting sparks. But the situation was brought under control immediately.”

He said he had visited the spot after receiving the news and made alternative arrangement for power supply.
