Jamshedpur: The plush cottages on the foothills of Dalma, which had been grappling with electricity woes for over a month, have finally reopened.
Tourists visiting the 192sqkm sanctuary, 30km from Jamshedpur, can now book the Makulakocha cottages and spend some quality time in the lap of nature.
Dalma forest officials said they had to close the facility after several tourists started complaining about ACs not working in the four cottages at Makulakocha, the main entry point to the sprawling jumbo abode.
An official at the forest range office in Mango said tourists can now book the cottages online at www.forest.jharkhand.gov.in. While the four AC rooms, which are generally preferred by tourists, are priced at Rs 1,100 per night, the other six non-AC rooms cost Rs 650.
"Tourists generally prefer AC rooms especially during summer. The electricity supply had been regular for the past two days and so we thought this was the perfect time to reopen the cottages," he added.
Dalma range officer R.P. Singh said the situation related to electricity supply had improved and things were finally on tracks.
"Power supply is not that erratic like it used to be earlier. The ACs were not able to function due to frequent power cuts. We could not even run the generator due to huge fuel expenses.," he added.
Another official at the range office said the forest officials waited for two days to watch the consistency of power cuts. "The cottages were reopened only when we were satisfied that tourists wouldn't be inconvenienced. Electricity supply is much better now," he added.
The Pinderbera forest guest house atop Dalma hills, which was also closed due to water problems, also reopened earlier this month. The two-room facility was reopened after the deep boring became active.
