Besides, the civic body also plans to refurbish a burial ground in Rangatand at a budget of Rs 4 crore.

Dhanbad mayor Chandrashekhar Agarwal said the tenders for Matkuria, Telipara and Bastacola crematoriums were cleared on Thursday. “We had planned to renovate all the major crematoriums and burials ground earlier this month. The crematoriums are expected to be ready by next year,” added Agarwal.

The crematoriums will boast of a small garden, a proper boundary wall, seating arrangements, water supply facility and proper lighting provision.

Ward 25 councillor Priya Ranjan, under whose jurisdiction the Telipara crematorium falls, said, “We will level the ground by cleaning all the bushes and also set up toilets and guard room. Besides, there will be additional facilities like proper lighting arrangements, boundary wall, a main gate and seating arrangement.”

Welcoming the move, Bishwajit Bhattacharjee, a resident of Telipara in Dhanbad, said, “The crematoriums are in really bad shape. So it was really necessary to revamp them and as an atmosphere of peace and serenity is required at these places.”
