Ranchi, March 8: A police team from the state capital started interrogating Mohammed Tasleem, who had allegedly sent extortion letters to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s father, Paan Singh, last December.

The interrogation started at Bhubaneswar after Tasleem was taken in remand from judicial custody by Orissa police. The criminal was arrested by Orissa police from Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar on March 4 afternoon and sent to judicial custody on March 5.

Senior superintendent of police Praveen Kumar Singh said that it would not be possible to bring Tasleem to Jharkhand till March 11 for interrogation.

“Tasleem will remain in the custody of Orissa police till March 10. After he is sent to judicial custody on March 11, we will move the court to take him in our custody. Only after the court order, will we be in a position to bring Tasleem to Jharkhand,” Singh said.

The Orissa police booked Tasleem in connection with a high-profile murder case in Delhi and an abduction case in Bhubaneswar and also declared him Jharkhand’s most-wanted criminal.

Tasleem had allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh as extortion amount from Paan Singh by writing two letters on December 29 and December 30.

The letters, signed by Tasleem, threatened to blow up Dhoni’s house in Ranchi unless Paan Singh paid up the money. The letter, which carried a stamp of Doranda post office, was sent from somewhere near Mani Tola. The letter directed Dhoni’s father to make the payment at Bharati Furniture in the capital.

Dhoni, who happened to be in Ranchi then, accompanied his father to the Jagannathpur police station to lodge an FIR, but the police couldn’t make any headway in the matter for quite some time.

Extra commandos were also deployed around Dhoni’s home.
