Cop statement on murder

Jamshedpur, Oct. 15: Sub-inspector of police Dusai Kashyap today disposed before the fast-track court VIII of A.K. Gupta in the murder case of JMM leader Nirmal Mahto.

So far 18 witnesses have favourably disposed in the court.Nirmal Mahto was killed on August 8, 1987, in front of Tisco Chameria guesthouse.

A case had been registered against the three brothers ? Birendra Singh, Dhirendra Singh alias Pappu and Narendra Singh alias Pandit ? on the basis of a statement given by the JMM vice-president Suraj Mandal. At the time of the killing, the Chameria guesthouse was jam-packed with Congress and JMM leaders. Many of them were enlisted as witnesses to the murder out of which six died.

Birendra Singh was arrested soon after the case was handed over to the CBI The court had sentenced Birendra to rigorous life-imprisonment in 2000. In the meantime, Pappu surrendered and Pandit was arrested by the CBI.
